September 2026 highlights on HBO Max in Iceland
In September, HBO Max premieres Sharon Horgan’s new HBO comedy series Youth, which follows a 50-year-old woman searching for intimacy as she navigates life’s challenges. Meanwhile, the German series 4 Blocks Zero returns to the origins of the award-winning Max Original series, telling the story of how the Hamady family rose to become Berlin’s most influential clan. When it comes to documentaries, viewers will have the opportunity to dive into the case of Jeffrey Epstein through never-before-seen footage and insights.

DIABOLICAL: THE EPSTEIN FILES
Premieres 3 September
Produced by Australian Broadcasting Corporation, documentary film Diabolical: The Epstein Files traces the rise, operations, network and eventual downfall of Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender accused of running a long-term sexual abuse and sex trafficking operation that exploited underage girls over many years. It also examines the alleged missed opportunities and institutional failures across law enforcement, legal and social systems that contributed to his criminal activity to continue largely unchecked for years. With unprecedented access to first-hand accounts and insights from investigators, legal experts, journalists and others directly connected to the Epstein case, including Epstein survivors Lisa Phillips and Ashley Rubright, his brother Mark Epstein and lawyer David Schoen, the 90-minute documentary brings to light the ripple effect of Epstein’s crimes.

OJ UNSEEN: EXPLOITATION OF EVIL

The leading true crime network Investigation Discovery unlocks never-before-seen footage from the making of Juiced – the ill-fated hidden-camera prank show featuring O.J. Simpson. An extreme experiment in the reality TV genre during a time that fused shock value and celebrity culture at any cost, for Simpson, the show was a misguided and desperate attempt to rehabilitate his public image. But just as producers were about to launch this ill-fated attempt to blend reality television with the crime of century, a mystery saboteur brought the whole thing crashing down from within. O.J. Unseen: Exploitation of Evil is an explosive four-part documentary event that examines the behind-the-scenes ethical and production challenges that derailed the project before it ever reached audiences.

The HBO Original comedy series Youth follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown up son. Sharon Horgan stars in, writes, and executive produces the series which also stars Sharlene Whyte, Rupert Friend, Aran Murphy and Robbie Gee. Youth is produced by Merman (Amandaland, Bad Sisters, Vladimir).

4 BLOCKS ZERO
Premieres 25 September
In the multiple award-winning German cult series 4 Blocks the Hamady family owned Berlin. But how did they rise to become the city’s most influential clan? Set in 1990s Berlin, this prequel to the Max Original series explores the early years of the Hamady family. Having fled from Lebanon with his four children and mother-in-law, Malik Hamady (Rami Fadel Khalaf) attempts to provide a better life for his family in Germany but struggles to gain a foothold amid prejudice and the challenges of daily life. When his brother-in-law Ibrahim (Tariq Al-Saies) is released from prison after eight years and joins the rest of the family, his dangerous secret sets off a chain reaction. As Ibrahim is drawn deeper into the criminal underworld, the Hamadys’ values are put to the ultimate test, jeopardizing their safety and everything they’ve worked towards to secure a new future.
